CJC meet!

Photobucket

last night i cruised down in the beebs to a ‘cjc’ meet in highbrook, east auckland. cjc as i’ve learned are a group of nz car enthusiasts who started off in the honda scene and eventually expanded to form their own crew. after eventually settling in a car-park situated right in the heart of botany (i was a bit lost at that stage haha) i was able to snap a few shots of some of the cars. excuse the high ISO…

Photobucket

Photobucket

there were a lot of rides i really appreciated. this golf was one of them. loved the rims, sweet fitment and the sunroof...

Photobucket

pedey and falgs share a special man-love moment...

Photobucket

i'm not usually a huge fan of the old standard honda civic... but this car was by far my favourite! this civic was super dumped on gold rims complete with roof-rack and rusty boot, i totally appreciate all these features! driving behind it, it just looked totally rad. someone needs to take some professional rolling shots of this, stat!

Photobucket

when we pulled up and saw this white s2000 on work meisters, i had to really try and hide my excitement at the risk of looking like a total nerd.

then i errr.... ended up sitting in it.

obviously i just had to test whether my long legs would fit in there. they did!

thanks cjc - keep the good stuff coming!

seriously, how does one do this?

i’m currently going through another “i can’t stop spazzing about convertibles” phase. it’s really bad, i tell you! at the moment i am in the process of figuring out how i can seriously afford one without dying from starvation and poverty for the rest of my life, and it’s harder than i thought. last night i was up late juggling numbers and writing up a budget – this was also a lot harder than i had anticipated and resulted in me having far too many wines! how does one decide they are ready to take the leap from having one car to more than one? is it when you realise you can’t keep doing the things you want to your car and still drive it on a daily basis? whatever it is, i just feel like my time is coming and that i need to plan for it.

my heart is absolutely set on getting an s2000, however from somewhere in the back of my head i can hear a voice shouting ‘but you could get an mx-5 for half the price and make it look cool for way cheaper!’ i’m pretty sure the internet knows about this internal argument going on inside my brain, i honestly swear every website in the world is posting up new super rad convertibles 100x more than usual just to f*ck with me.

the perfect stance

yesterday i received a very interesting comment on here - basically, an anonymous reader was confused about the definition of the word ‘stance’. i deleted this comment as the context it was written in was just a bit too not-so-nice for my liking, which at first made me think ‘you've been reading my blog and you still don't get it yet?' and 'if you don’t like it, nobody is forcing you to read it?’ after thinking about it some more though, i decided perhaps it was sort of fair. if i’m going to start a blog stating ‘i love stance’, perhaps i should be writing more about stance itself and why i actually like it so much.

if you asked me to put the definition of stance into my own words, i think i would have to say it is the effect your wheel fitment has to the overall appearance of your car. the combination of offset, ride height and camber all contribute to this. of course, different people will have different definitions on the ‘perfect stance’. i personally love ‘wheel poke’ or mexi-fitment, where your wheels (usually lower offset) are just stupidly too wide and stick out like there’s no tomorrow. the most commonly known stance term is ‘hellaflush”, where the rim and the guard sit perfectly in line – i think this is most commonly thought of by stance enthusiasts as the perfect stance.

yesterday i stumbled across these pictures of perhaps THE most perfect stance in the whole world. this g35 rocks 19×10's (-20) & 19×12's (-32) oh, shit. makes my s2k vision look like a teddy bears picnic, don't you think?

Photobucket

Photobucket

look at the way the wheels make the car sit - reminds me of a big wallowing blue whale! what a beast... seriously though if this thing doesn't make you understand what stance is i don't know what will!

Photobucket

photos are from stancenation.com

stance enthusiasts are people that believe wheel fitment should play a big part (or at least be taken into consideration!) when modifying your car. why? because we think it looks cool. i think that poor stance is like having poor posture – it just looks lazy and unattractive! if you are still unsure on what the f*ck my blog is about you can also check out my previous posts a girl’s guide to stance and a girl’s guide to stance part 2!

what do you guys define as the perfect stance?

dreams are free, cars aren't!

after embarking on my first modified car project, (which i might add, still isn't finished yet!), i can't help but feel not fully satisfied with it. i absolutely love my car, and i know it will look awesome once it's finished - it already looks cool. i just feel like... it's not enough for me.

sure, i'm still a rookie when it comes to knowledge about cars and modifying them. part of me says that i should just be satisfied with my little bB, it is very suitable for me after all. but when i flick through the pages of performance car, when i browse hellaflush and when i go out to car events and see the sick rides that other people have, the same feeling creeps up my throat and catches me out every time. it's funny because i do experience a similar feeling when seeing an amazing pair of shoes or even listening to a friend's impressive travel stories. but the interesting thing is that it's nowhere NEAR as strong as when i see a beautiful car that i could totally envisage seeing in my own garage. the feeling is one of pure jealousy.

i think this obsession is fuelled by the perfectionist gene in me. the thought that my car is not the best, or not as cool as other people's cars makes me turn green with envy. a while ago i sat down with pedey and had a chat about this. my first question was "how do people afford such a nice car?" to which pedey replied "i guess you just need to have a really well-paying job." my next question was, "okay, so how do people like ME afford a nice car?" the answer was of course to take a trip to the bank.

a loan. debt. i shuddered at the thought. i've always been debt-free, the thought of oweing money or being in 'negative' dollars just freaks me out completely. getting a loan to accquire a car which i would eventually modify to the point that the wheels would only just be able move round in circles - and make a horrible rubbing sound when they did,(full sick!) to many people would just seem absolutely ridiculous! i soon realised that the very people that inspire me to want to get a loan for a rad car in the first place, are the people that would think the opposite. they would be the ones behind it 100%, the ones that would step back to admire and appreciate the car, the ones that would try and stick their finger underneath my wheel and say "cool!"

the biggest question is what car would i get - it would have to be something worth it! i've always loved nissan 350zs, they are such beautiful cars and look even better slammed with good fitment...

Photobucket

but they just aren't as desirable to me as a convertible. a couple of months ago i saw a few pictures of stanced convertibles and i've had a one track mind ever since. i like mx5s, but they just aren't bad ass enough. if i'm going to do this, i'm going to do it properly! which is why i have my heart set on an s2000...

Photobucket

if all goes to plan, i'll start my new project after this summer to have it ready by the end of next year. i have my mind made up and i'm thinking of getting a paint job, (as i'm so jealous after pedey's new paint job!) silver-lilac on super flush white rims. i've decided that i need to get over my pink obsession and go for something a bit more 'mature', while of course still incorporating my feminine style into the car. check out my vision...

Photobucket

picture from stancenation

i think of it like this. whenever i look at my credit card and get depressed, i'll still be able to wiggle it between my guard and my tire and go "haha, fuck yeah!"

progress on the fastback!

last night i went to watch grant from GTRefinishers start the paintjob on pedey's (soon-to-be) beautiful chevy impala fastback. i’d never watched a car being painted before so i was quite interested to watch how it was done. after the first coat went on it already looked truly mesmerising – we knew we loved the colour straight away! check it out:

i’m pretty sure i have a hangover today from the paint fumes. under the lights you can’t really see the exact colour but soon she’ll be ready to come home so i’ll definitely be posting some more pictures up then. can’t wait!

iheartstance official 100th post!

today i sat at the top of mt. eden and watched the sun bounce off the buildings scattered below the sky tower. it’s become my daily ritual to walk up there at lunch, and today i realised that i’m still not over the breathtaking view. it makes me realise just how much i love being in auckland, and since i made the move here over a year and a half ago i know i’ll never go back. since coming here i’ve gained a new appreciation for many things, and i know that some of my friends have perhaps found a few of these hobbies to seem a little out of my character. if a year ago, you told me i’d have a lowered shoe-box shaped car that struggles to get over speedbumps and that i wrote a blog about wheel fitment, i would've totally told you to f*ck off!

what you have to understand is, i spend a lot of time with people that literally live and breathe cars. i get home and have to wade through a sea of performance car, nzv8, classic car and various low-rider magazines to get to the kitchen. our garage space is taken up by car-parts, stacks of wheels and pieces of chrome trim scattered everywhere, with one side waiting patiently to be claimed by a monstrous classic impala which makes the house smell like old car interior. (i definitely say i have to prefer this to the MarkII that would make the whole house reek of fuel and give everyone a headache!) a normal evening spent with pedey usually consists of him sitting on his lap-top until the late hours, either writing about cars or talking on the phone to someone about them. our flatmate usually gets home quite late, after he’s finished working on his own project car at his workshop. if pedey does manage to make it to bed at a decent hour, i’m woken by him in the night sleep-talking about you guessed it, "nah it’s too low bro – zero ground-clearance!"

i literally went from having no interest whatsoever, to one day waking up and seeing a car that made me think "wow, that looks really awesome!" from there all i did was listen and learn, and i realised that this was something that i was actually passionate about. i’m a girl that still likes rihanna, the colour pink and stuff that makes my hair look pretty. the car scene is something i never thought about before - but all of a sudden i found myself lost in it. speedhunters, hellaflush and stanceworks now sit bookmarked on my laptop desktop with a black 350z as my wallpaper, my diary filled with car events i’m looking forward to over the summer. sometimes i sit back and think – errr… how did this happen again?

i guess the point of this is to give a HUGE thank-you to everyone who has been reading iheartstance, and thank-you especially for actually giving me a chance. being quite a 'girly-girl' type, it means a lot that people have actually taken an interest in me voicing my opinions about cars and stance - all of your feedback has been so amazing. and of course, to thank my amazing partner pedey, for introducing me to something that i really love. (not him – cars!) since starting this blog he has been so supportive and very helpful and i appreciate it more than he knows. and thanks babe for understanding that i’m always going to be that girl that takes an extra half an hour to put my hair extensions in before we go out and that i am incapable of not buying a new pair of shoes every month on the internet!

Photobucket

in celebration of my 100th post i thought it might be time to give the blog a little bit of a makeover – a little less pink and a few new features here and there! if you have any suggestions or feedback for me, please do give me and email at iheartstance.gmail.com with your thoughts!

thank-you so much everyone!
