summer is literally 12 sleeps away and all of a sudden, everything is happening!!! there have definitely been some positive changes going on around here – firstly our terrible neighbour ‘oven man’ has finally moved out. you are probably wondering why the hell i am blogging about this but i need to express to you how much of an impact oven man had on our neighbourhood! oven man and his tribe of 10+ family members, 10+ cars (trying to squeeze into 3 parking spaces) and 10+ ovens on his driveway was possibly the worst neighbour ever. when he wasn’t running his illegal oven repair business out of his garage, trying to re-park all his cars to fit in his driveway, trying to fit all his ovens into his driveway or letting his various workers park in OUR driveway, he was busy assaulting our cross-dressing neighbour and just being a general douche-head.
with oven man gone, spirits have definitely lifted in our neighbourhood – cross-dressing man can even don a lovely wig and a dress if he wants. the only bad part about the departure of oven man is that with him went our beloved friend steve the cat. it has been hard letting go but we will get there... unfortunately i can't find an
actual photo of him so this is as close as i can get:

miss you steve.
anyway, today pedey said goodbye to another old friend, the trusty cedric which has served him well as a daily driver for the past 3 years. he now has his heart set on the idea of getting a “super custom” van that can fit his new motocross bike in. who ever gave pedey the idea to get a) a motorbike and b) a man-van, i would just like to thank-you sincerely. (please kindly note
TOTAL SARCASM!) the other great thing that’s been happening lately is that with the warmer weather we’ve finally been able to start utilising our amazing roof-deck again. soon it will be hot enough to put up the pool!

last night i went over to
gtrefinishers for the next step of my bmx project – paint! grant was generous enough to let me go crazy in his paint shop for the evening and it was actually a lot of fun. i got to pick a colour off the chart, and then grant printed out a colour sheet telling me how much of each different colour to put in.

i had the most fun with this part…

pedey and i then had a go spraying the frame first with primer and then with my pink concoction. as it turns out, grant makes this part look super easy but it’s totally not. also apparently a bmx is a lot harder to paint than a car – after doing it i can see why. check out the finished product!

while we were at the workshop we also made a bit more progress on the impala. i honestly don’t think that anyone can appreciate a classic car like this until they have actually
restored one. at the moment there are 3 large boxes of metal and plastic bits and bobs sitting next to the car, and i don’t even know whereabouts on the car they come from! it’s like putting back together puzzle pieces, it’s a job requires a lot of patience! the car now has nice new carpet, the seats put back in, all the glass back in it and has had the old interior upholstery (which came gold factory!) resprayed in the original gold colour. it’s so exciting to see everything finally coming together, and we have our fingers crossed that she will be able to make the trip home to our garage this weekend! it’s been a mission, but a very rewarding one and i can’t wait to reap the benefits with pedey once it’s all done :)

if you’re looking for something car-related to do this weekend, ‘nizfest’ is being held this saturday at hampton downs raceway and then over at fram autolite dragway in meremere on the sunday. celebrating all things nissan and datsun, nizfest is a huge event on the automotive scene calendar and is only a gold-coin entry if you want to head along and check it out! have a look at the website if you want more info:
