cannonball run 2011 coverage

The long awaited 2011 Cannonball Run took place this Saturday and I was very proud to have been a part of it this time, entering my own team in the race and dressing in full granny attire! The highlight of the day for me had to be when a group of teenagers passed us and one bloke hung out of the car window yelling "f*ck yeah hellaflush!!!!" only to find that the car was being driven by grandmas! The look on his face was priceless.

An impressive turn out of 175 vehicles were in attendance, as usual a really interesting collection of Japanese, American and European vehicles, including some absolutely beautiful classic cars, a few Hummers and even an RV named 'Priscilla Queen of the Cannonball run' - totally hilarious stuff. They had a complete team of drag queens and even a huge decorative high heel on the roof. The lowlight of the day was very unfortunate, sadly one of the Cannonballers cars caught on fire and completely burned to the ground - a result of the fuel line splitting apparently. I later discovered the silver MR2 was originally Ketzal Sterling's car from High Octane! A sad day for the owner, RIP flyen :(

Check out some of the amazing outfits! People really got into the spirit of the competition and it was hilarious seeing some of the costumes that people had created.

These guys were pretty damn hilarious, they even had a Mazda Bongo wagon and the funniest part was that they were actually all white guys! Lol...

I didn't realise until looking through the photos afterwards, but this team's number was 911!

Napoleon Dynamite team... they had ALL the characters and each person looked incredibly similar to their actual character. Pedro was so awesome!

This explains why there was a man in Mcdonalds on the way home ordering a combo in just his underpants. By about 5pm he had ditched all his accessories and was getting some very interesting looks from people in the Wellsford foodcourt...

Our destination farthest from auckland was Kaikohe where everyone parked up and had a bite to eat and of course, got the chance to show off and do skids for the crowd! An impressive freestyle motorcross display was put on too and Pedey got some amazing photos from this - I'll have to post them once I get them. The rest of the day was pretty crazy and we got up to some errr, rather interesting activities! Thank-you Falgs for the use of your Canon G12 for these shots...
