4 & rotary nationals 2011: part 3

i'm not going to deny it... i really love going to the drags! and no, i'm not a 'bogan'. i just don't understand how people can't get excited over super fast cars, the smell of burning rubber, methanol stinging your eyes and the deafening roars of rumbling v8s in your ears. everything about it is just so awesome and you totally don't need to be rocking a mullet to go there and have a good time.

on sunday i discovered that it's a lot more fun going to the drags and NOT being incredibly hungover. we rolled down in the impala, which is looking pretty damn fine if i don't say so myself...

thanks duncan from slotmedia for this awesome shot!

when we arrived, fram autolite dragway was a flurry of activity with drivers and their crews preparing cars for the strip. the one thing that always surprises and pleases me about automotive events here in nz is the amount of children that parents bring along for the show. some of the kids appear to be more excited than the adults! you can only guess who this cool dude belongs to...

taking these images reminded me how much i enjoy photographing children. the gorgeous tiff from old skool rydz brought along her equally gorgeous little girl too and she loves watching the cars!

the speedtech motorsport crew travelled up from wellington to oversee several of their cars hit the strip. just like me, i think they'd had one too many free energy drinks!

one of their latest tuning projects is paul dowdell's NZ performance rx8, which was running in the high 8's (only the second time the cars ever been out!)

chris anderson's NA 1UZ-powered ute was running well too...

i was highly entertained by the sight of a 'rotary powered lawnmower' which was actually ridiculously quick - for a lawnmower anyway.

check out the next performance car issue for a full feature on steve whittham's 600hp 13B-powered drag motorcycle. this thing is a beast and it's damn scary to watch when it goes fast! let's just say that if satan rode a motorcycle, this would be it...

Photobucket

one of the entertainment acts of the day included the V "rocket man" who in case you didn't know, does actually fly! check out some of my favourite shots from throughout the day...
