kumeu classic car & hot rod show 2011

this was the second year i'd been along to kumeu and the show for 2011 didn't disappoint - i'm pretty sure it was a bigger turn out this year too. the combination of beautiful cars, free beer, a scorching day and mini cinnamon donuts makes me want to give it a 10/10. our friend brought along a '67 impala rag-top and we convoyed behind in our '67 fastback, words can't describe the feeling but i think these photos do...

taking the impala out is so much fun, but there's just something special about rolling together, it just makes it twice as exciting. so far we've been lucky enough to have a '67 cadillac coupe deville and then a '67 fastback impala fastback and i've gained a huge appreciation for classic cars since - the way they look, smell, drive, and mostly for the hard work (and $$$!) that goes into restoring them. i'm not really a big hot rod enthusiast but i absolutely love checking out all the classic cars, especially other caddys and impalas.

this black caddy was one of my favourite cars of the day, it was sad to see it cornered in between other cars and the camping area as i would have loved to have taken some better shots of it. loving the subtle roof-chop...

this continental is beautiful, another one of my favourites...

this blue impala 'baduso', another '67 rag-top is my favourite lowrider. i remember seeing it when i was in whangamata last year for beach hop and literally not being able to take my eyes off it. it's such a beautiful car and was a big inspiration for the purchase of our '67. the only downside i feel is that with the top up it ruins the whole shape of the car for me, although still having the wide hips it loses it's sweeping roof line which the fastback model has. i still can't decide which model i favour now and it's annoying me. i'll let you guys decide for yourselves...

new zealand car club 'old skool rydz' had their lowriders on display and as usual, all looking very impressive.

this year i'll be heading down to beach hop at the end of march so if you're into classic cars, have a look on the blog around then as i'll be posting a shit load of photos from it! for those of you that don't know, beach hop is new zealand's biggest rock 'n' roll festival and they hold a competition for classic cars from all over the country. if you haven't been along before i'd strongly recommend it - after you experience it you'll want to go every year! check out the website here.

you can see more photos on my flickr page too, click here.
