trip to the bottom of new zealand

On Friday I flew down to Invercargill to photograph a wedding for my dear friend Suzanne of Photography by Design. I'd never been this far down the country before and I wasn't really expecting anything exciting, but after spending three days in the heart of Southland I completely understood why people loved it so much. It is such a tranquil and beautiful place and I couldn't get over how quiet it was compared to Auckland! Here are just a few of my favourite shots from Saturday.

They were such a lovely couple and the bride looked effortlessly beautiful, so easy to photograph. The wedding was held at Colac Bay which is about 40 minutes West of Invercargill. It was such a clear day we could even see Stewart island in the distance, such a stunning location...

I loved everything about Riverton, all the old buildings there made it a great place for a location shoot. So pretty.

Taramea Bay was nice too.

It was so nice to get away for the weekend and I'm so happy with the photos. I love New Zealand ♥

sunday stance fix

Just some cars that have caught my eye over the last couple of weeks...

Loving this clean EG on 15" Diamond Racing Pro steelies. You guys know how I feel about white on white.

Perfectly fitted Rotiform NUEs. Love this look!

One of my favourite 350zs ever - after blogging about this car a while ago the owner hit me up on Facebook (cheers Milt!) and I've been following progress on his ride ever since. He's recently acquired a set of dope Garson Racing wheels (19×10 -6 and 19×12 -12!) which have been painted in a gorgeous Kandy Blue. You can check out a sweet post on here on Stance:Nation with more - if you haven't already read it!

The contrast between the orange and blue with these CE28s is pretty cool.

Another clean civic.

Black BBS RSs on a bB - rad.

I've had a lot of time to think over the weekend and the idea of painting my wheels bright pink is really starting to grow on me all of a sudden. Especially after seeing cars like this EK Civic and of course Milt's 350z. Perhaps this could well be the extra something that will make my car stand out from the rest. I had a reader email me his version of what the car would look like and I'm really digging it, check it out:

So far I've had an overwhelming amount of positive responses about the pink which is really cool and I really appreciate everyone's feedback. Keep it coming!

sweet vector art!

Today I received an email from friend and talented graphic designer Mark Curran with a sweet illustration of my MX-5! Or what I want it to look like anyway. Check it out...

Dope as! I love the concept of white on white, but Mark and the other designers at his work all agree that I should paint my wheels and roll bar fluro pink! What do you guys think?

Mark's pretty onto it with this sort of stuff so if you need anything illustrated or designed, hit him up at mark@pixelsaurus.co.nz

iheartstance repping!

Lance Streeter from Gizzmo sent me this sweet shot of his AE85 repping an iheartstance sticker! You'll see more of Lance's car in the upcoming issue of Performance Car magazine!

And another photo from Richard from Hype Distribution...

Keep the photos coming!

the new shoes and top

After many weeks of stressing over what wheels I wanted for the MX-5, one night it literally came to me in my sleep. Actual. I was rudely awoken to a laptop being shoved in my face with a picture of these genuine Watanabe wheels for sale and I knew I had to get them. They are 14x7.5 (I know, 7.5!) but they have an offset of -3. Funny enough when I went to pick them up, the guy selling them was previously running them on his white MX-5.

I also picked up a hardtop...

Progress!

beautiful s2k

I still love this car! These shots are from the latest Hellaflush meet which was held in Hawaii over the weekend. Simple, clean, and fitted right. You can never have too much of a good thing.

a different kind of square

I was surprised and disappointed at the amount of people that approached me at Nationals to compliment my "Cube". In an effort not to sound offended, I had to politely explain that the car was not a Cube, "It's a bB". There were a lot of scrunched up noses and confused expressions at this, and to my horror I realised that the majority of these people didn't even know what a Toyota bB was!

Thinking about it, I'm not sure what's worse; somebody knowing what a Cube is and not what a bB is, or someone not able to make out the distinctive difference between the two vehicles! Although the two are definitely both square in shape, the bB has always been the car of choice in the scene and it's become hugely popular among VIP/stance enthusiasts all over the globe. The bB has always been my favourite of the two and I prefer everything about it over the Cube - I'd never imagined that one could look even remotely cool.

It seems that some people are trying to give the Cube a chance, and as much as I hate to admit it, this car really caught my attention - for the right reasons!

Not only is it sitting flush, this Cube sits on a custom air-suspension system. On top of both these things, the owner is a girl too! Loving the roofrack (of course!), purple accents and JDM styling!

Perhaps the Cube can look cool after all. What do you guys think?

a trip to pat's garage

My flatmate works full time as a mechanic, conveniently just up the road from where we live! Last Saturday I spent the day hanging out in his workshop and all sorts of crazy stuff went down. Patrick owns an '87 Mitsubishi 'Cyborg' which you may remember me blogging about a few months ago on here. This project is a serious labour of love and I always enjoy hearing progress on his build and occasionally I'll head over and get the scoop on what's been going on.

Photobucket

Unfortunately things took a turn for the worst at a recent, er... track day (cough cough - burnout on a friend's driveway - cough cough). The play in the turbo went cataclysmic whilst a sustained loss of traction was going on so Patrick, always looking on the bright side of things, decided this could be an opportunity for an upgrade. It was time to take out the old TD05H with it's 16G compressor wheel and upgrade to a slightly larger model with a 20G compressor wheel.

Photobucket

The old turbo was completely buggered!

On this particular visit Pat was in the process of prepping the engine for the new turbo to be put in. This was taking far too long and I got a bit distracted...

Photobucket

I was just playing around, but unfortunately this gave Pat the idea that I should actually learn how to weld. I tried to explain to him how this was a bad idea (surely I would end up burning my arm off!) but he wouldn't have a bar of that and before I could blink, I already had a torch in my hand!

Photobucket

As you can see, Pat's boss thought the concept of a girl welding in a skirt was quite hilarious.

Photobucket

Okay, so welding was suprisingly quite fun and apparently according to Pat I'm actually quite good at it - although I think he might have just been saying that to be nice!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Also girls, did you know that you can get a TAN from welding?

Photobucket

Hopefully my new 'skills' will come in handy for my MX-5 build. I did just buy a roll bar set-up yesterday so who knows... Pat's garage certainly hasn't seen the last of me yet!

This is where the magic happens!

And at sunset...

I ♥ my house! Now if only it had 3 more garages...

stickers have arrived!

It just so happens that one of my sponsors, Lance from Gizzmo Racing also owns a signwriting company, and last week he arranged for some sweet die-cut stickers to be printed for me!

Photobucket

They look great and I'm super happy with them! I've only got a limited supply so if you'd like one, leave me a comment or hit me up on our Facebook page here and I'll get one out to you asap!

Photobucket

A lot of progress was made on the Miatasaurus this weekend, new engine oil, gearbox oil, diff oil, filters, exhaust mid-section and we worked out it's got a factory option limited slip diff - bonus! The majority of the carpet and sound deadening has been removed too in preparation for the half cage. We also repainted the old wheels that the car came with in black. They were pretty rough before, and I was actually quite suprised at how they came out. They don't look too bad!

Photobucket

Photobucket

These wheels are 15x7's and although I'll be getting some new wheels soon, these are definitely going to come in handy for when I'm learning to drive on the track etc.

Streeter Concepts
also do commerical signage for buildings, vehicle signwriting and canvas prints. Check out some other stickers printed by them here!
