upcoming new zealand automotive events

We spend hours, days, years, modifying our cars to the point where we can finally look at them and say 'Phwoar... I'm living the dream now!' But there's no point in doing so if that car is going to stay confined to the four walls of your garage for the rest of eternity. This summer I'm planning on getting out as often as I can with my Miata and getting amongst as many events as possible, despite the car being ridiculously difficult to navigate on our roads with it's new ride height.. ooops. Whether you're a stance, drift or classic car enthusiast, make sure to get out and get involved in the New Zealand car scene as much as you can in 2012! Here are some events I'm looking forward to over the next few months that will definitely be worth checking out...

Kumeu Classic Car show - Saturday 21st - Sunday 22nd January





The 18th Annual Classic Car & Hot Rod show hits Kumeu this weekend. I love seeing all the beautiful classics on display and the show is always well worth checking out! Click here to go to the website.

4 and Rotary Nationals - Saturday 27th - Sunday 28th January





The countdown is on - only 11 days left before the 2012 Nationals! I'm so excited to see what new cars are going to pop up this year, as well as featuring my own car in the show. Make sure to be there at the ASB Showgrounds on Saturday and the drags at Meremere on Sunday too. Click here for more info on the 4 & R website.

D1NZ Round 4 Mt Smart - Friday 10th - Saturday 11th February




The last few D1NZ rounds - pretty much self explanatory why these are all must-see events! I'm especially looking forward to the Whangarei round as I missed out last time they held a D1NZ round there in the 2010 season. Also note the other dates below:

D1NZ Round 6 Hampton Downs - Friday 6th - Saturday 7th April

Stance Off - Sunday 26th February





Stance Off 2012 is a new event following up on the success of the VASK Stance Off meet held last year. This year the team behind Stance Off are stepping away from the VASK umbrella and opening up the event to the public, with all makes and models welcome. Leadfoot Festival - Friday 23rd - Sunday 25th March

I am particularly excited about this event - the Leadfoot Festival is nearly here! The website tells us: 'The Leadfoot Festival is a unique weekend bringing together a mix of classic cars, vintage motorcycles and motorsport legends. Limited tickets will be offered to the general public with an invitation to Rod Millen’s private grounds at Leadfoot Ranch. The 140 acre, ocean-front estate features a long driveway that winds through the property designed to be the perfect hill climb. Guests will be given one of a kind experiences featuring unparalleled access to the drivers, pits and racecars. The event is a true celebration of motorsports and all things automotive.'

Beach Hop - Wednesday 28th March - Sunday 1st April





One of my favourite events of the year and New Zealand's biggest classic car & rock 'n' roll festival, Beach Hop 2012 is rapidly approaching! Let's all cross fingers for better weather than last year. I'm looking forward to more good times in the Impala down in beautiful Whangamata.
