Lexus LFA visits New Zealand

I’d heard of the LFA before but didn’t think I’d ever be seeing one over here on our shores in New Zealand. So last week when I heard that Toyota New Zealand would be bringing one in to display in their showrooms around the country, I took the opportunity to pop over and check it out for myself.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with the car, here is a quick run-through of why it’s so awesome. Firstly, it’s the most expensive Japanese road car ever made and to purchase one would only set you back just under NZ$1million. The LFA body consists mainly of carbon fibre and only 500 models were ever produced. Under the hood sits a 4.8-litre V10 engine capable of around 560hp.

To be honest, I didn’t really see why the car comes with a million dollar price tag. I'm not saying that it isn't awesome of course! But after seeing and hearing an Aventador (which costs less too) I definitely prefer the overall style and engine package that the new Lamborghini has to offer over the LFA. I didn't get the same feeling of childish excitement that I experienced being in the presence of an Aventador. Perhaps this was just because a) I didn’t get to hear or see the LFA in action and b) I didn’t get to go in it or drive it. Judging from the reaction it seems to get all round the world (the most common one would have to be ‘it’s my dream car!’) I’m sure my opinion would change if I had the opportunity to experience it under either of those circumstances – who knows, maybe one day I’ll get to. I hope so! What do you guys think?

  1. The pricetag of the LFA is so high because Lexus spent so much money and time researching and engineering it to be amazing, for instance it has a digital tachometer because an ordinary analogue one just couldn't keep up with the way the car revs. Even with it's high pricetag, Lexus won't make any money selling them (not sure if they are losing money though).

Personally I would have the Aventador over the LFA any day because it just seems like more fun and Lamborghini's are more known for having a soul and personality (and even aggression), but having never driven, or even seen in person, either of them my mind might be changed by the experience.
